Minnesota Loves Libraries Launches

December 12, 2016

“Minnesota Loves Libraries” is a grassroots advocacy campaign set to run throughout the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative through mid-January. We are looking for stories that represent service, community connections, and individual success. Have you had a positive interaction with a library staff member? Did you attend a program that taught you something? Maybe you were able to access information that helped you get a job or improve your work skills, or maybe a librarian guided you to the perfect book to share with your child at bedtime. Whatever it is, we’d like to hear about it!
Supported by the Council of Regional Public Library System Administrators (CRPLSA), the campaign is launching statewide and will be administered by each library region individually. Library users are invited to stop by their local library to fill out a postcard or visit Minnesota Loves Libraries to use the online form. The purpose is to gather stories of how Minnesotans use the library and how it makes a difference in their lives.
Legislators will receive comments from their constituents so that they get a glimpse of library services available in their district, and to provide an opportunity for them to respond directly.
Libraries do more than handle books. With the new day and age of digital, libraries not only have to have the equipment to access information in a wide spectrum of formats, as well as the expertise to answer the questions. Libraries also provide different programs for all ages and some even have smart play spots for toddlers, to play together. For teens, some of the libraries have makerspaces that have 3D printers and computer coding classes. For adults and seniors, there are computer classes and other interesting classes that they would have to pay for, if not given freely from the library.  We would like to hear how all the services that the libraries provide are helping people in Southern Minnesota.
Please help to promote your library as this program will run through mid-January. Pick up your postcard from your library, fill it out, and return it to your local library or visit Minnesota Loves Libraries to use the online form.
We at Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative would like to say “Thank You” for helping show the value of the libraries.
